Third Trimester Update

Whew. Third trimester hormones that make me loopy are setting in. Fatigue from the growing baby inside me effects me from time to time. And, as many of my Facebook friends know, I found the cutest stray puppy who turned out to have a broken leg (poor thing!), is not potty trained (he's about 8 months old we suspect), and he needs weekly vet care (he's now wearing a splint for 6-8 weeks in the hope that we can avoid surgery). Did I mention that he needs constant supervision? I'm getting a bit of a head start in my mommy training to say the least. He wants to be by my side all day, and needs to be carried a lot. Needless to say... I'm a tad exhausted - lol. But. He has the sweetest and cutest face. I can't help but melt every time he looks up at me. We've named him Miso.

Meanwhile, my belly is growing, my lower back aches terribly (I'm not sure if it's from bending over so much to pick up the puppy, my crazy lack of sleep which includes sleeping on the couch many times with Miso in about 2-4 hour increments, the baby pressing on my back, or a combo of everything. My allergies are crazy, too, and that can be tiring in itself. I'm pooped.

But... I'm filled with love and excitement about the last couple of months in my pregnancy (hoping my back improves). And, I'm grateful that we found Miso and saved him from what would most likely have meant death to him (we found him in the desert area of our neighborhood where the hot sun beats down and bobcats, owls, and coyotes roam. The poor little guy couldn't walk because of his broken leg).

On a raw food note... I'm going through the final edits of my next recipe book. I'm very excited about that! And, I'm working on some other projects (when Miso gives me a five minute break - lol).

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend.

  4. Oh, bless your heart, Kristen, for taking in little Miso and making sure he got the necessary medical care and follow-up.

I knew it already, but this just affirms what a wonderful Mommy you're going to be. Monkey is SO very blessed.

Try to find some time to kick back and relax. Set aside some self-pampering days if you can during this last homestretch. Soon, you're going to hit the ground running...and, well, you're going to be running for roughly the next 18 years. ツ

    BIG love,
    xoxo

  9. your little monkey is so lucky to have two pups to be friends with. :-) i've told you before but i will again that i am so happy you rescued him! at least he is a small guy. my pup has trouble walking and is 60 pounds.

for back stuff--i've been through it all. can you put creams on? I've used traumeel and arnica gel with some success if it's a dull aching muscle soreness. heat or ice can do a lot too.

can't wait to hear about your new book!

  10. I loved reading about Miso. I'm so glad there are people like you who are willing to help a poor little animal in need, and willing to put up with little inconveniences such as potty training. It's so stupid that people will get rid of an animal for something so petty sometimes. Way to go! I'm sure you're baby will love him, too. :)

Good luck with your pregnancy! <3

  13. What a sweet little darling of a pup!! :) Congratulations! Random question: I just noticed my Chia seeds jar says to get your doc's approval before eating it if you're pregnant. Chia seeds are okay to have during pregnancy, right? Thanks!

  15. Hi Emilia,
Even though I consume chia during pregnancy, you should check with your midwife or physician.

    Cheers,

  19. Congrats on your new addition to the family. I love the name Miso. We too got a new puppy this week. He was the last of the liter and is a cutie. We are glad we were able to be blessed with him. He came to us at the perfect time. I just had to let my 14 year old fur baby go and will see her over the rainbow bridge someday. She was a great, awesome companion, ever at my side. I miss her dearly! She was an 80lb lab/akita mix and I have had her from the beginning. Our new puppy "Zip" (dear Hubby named him) is a McNabb/Border collie mix. He looks just like a McNabb. He can't replace Shiloh, but he gives me a smile everyday. I know what you mean about keeping an eye on our fur babies. I feel like we have an infant in the home. Up every 2 hours wanting to go potty then he thinks it is time to play. I too am exhausted, but I am not expecting. I feel for you.

A really good exercise to relieve back pain while pregnant is to get on all fours and arch so you are kinda half moon. Stretch and hold for the count of 10. Try doing this a few times. I really helped me during my pregnancy.

  20. Love that photo of Miso - too cute!

Rest up and enjoy the home stretch! You are almost there!!!

  21. I might have missed something...the dog's name is miso? (ha ha not surprised) I remember being that pregnant all too well and my little boy is now 4 months old! Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to being pregnant again. I think I can wait a while and just enjoy this unpregnant feeling. It is worth it though when you have a cute little guy or gal to tote around and then suddenly everyone wants to be your friend! (though I doubt you struggled with that previously) I'm excited about your next book! Hopefully those of us who have your entire collection already can get a discount....hint hint...:)

  24. I saw a stray pug on Saturday and that maternal instinct (I'm 37 weeks preg. w/my first) definitely kicked in! I saw another car stop to get him out of the road, so I hope he found a good home. Your little Miso is adorable!

Have you tried acupuncture for your back? I started having sciatic nerve pain in the second tri, had one treatment of acupuncture, and was golden. I now go once a month just to clear out any baddies. Just find someone who knows how to work with pregnant women!

  25. This post made me smile. We got our puppy 8 months ago during our fertility struggle. He's been at my side all day from the very beginning and is the sweetest thing. We even give him some credit for improving my stress levels leading to my pregnancy 2 months later! Now at 32 weeks, I am trying to prepare him to become a big brother. Congratulations and good luck :)

  26. So happy you are keeping little Miso! He couldn't get a better family to live with! And what a freakin cutie!!!! I just want to kiss him!

  28. Miso is adorable! I'm so glad you found him and took him in. I feel for you about the back problems. Bless your heart.

You may have already tried this, but doing "cat stretches" helped me when my back hurt during pregnancy.

Rest well when you can. xoxo

  30. That Miso looks sweet.. Lucky dog!
We're eating and drinking alot of Nettles around here to soothe the springtime allergies.
    Yum.
Go get a massage! I had no idea when I was pregnant that I should have done this more often...like 1x/wk! Post baby you will be busy falling in love, so I say, do it now. Your heart, mind, and body will love the extra attention.

  31. I was getting prenatal massages every 3 weeks, but Miso is costing me a LOT in vet bills, so I'm putting my massage money toward him - lol. :)

  32. What a sweet little thing - thank goodness you found him! I suspect your backache has nothing to do with little miso though - that's just part of the pregnancy package. You are at an exhausting, but also exciting time!
