Raw Vegan Recipe (video): Butterfly Blossom Smoothie

After I made the video showing you how I open a young Thai coconut, I wanted to make a smoothie I'd been tossing around in my head that included young Thai coconut. I grabbed my camera and recorded the following video, even though I hadn't made the recipe until now. How will it turn out? You'll have to watch to find out. As you'll see, I didn't have a name for the recipe at the time of recording, but here is what I came up with: Butterfly Blossom Smoothie. It seemed just right. :)

OK! I am cracking up at the shot YouTube automatically chose to show in the beginning of this video. hahahaha - I think I'll keep it like that.

Butterfly Blossom Smoothie
Recipe by Kristen Suzanne of KristensRaw.com
Yield 3 cups

1 cup young Thai coconut water
1/2 cup young Thai coconut meat
1 cup pineapple, chopped
1 cup frozen banana, chopped
1/4 cup hemp protein powder
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
1 tablespoon wheat grass powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
splash orange blossom water

Blend it up and enjoy.

  1. Sounds yummy Kristen but I swear I can always detect the texture of the protein powder, and I just don't care for it. Sometimes I just throw in a tablespoon of the hemp seed butter when a smoothie calls for the powder. Maybe I'll try your smoothie with hemp butter in place of the powder and seeds. I even have the orange blossom water on hand. Guess why? I bought it to make your chocolate hemp seed milk recipe after Ingrid posted it on Raw Epicurean awhile back. Delicious!

  2. Hi Melinda,
Do you try the protein powder in smoothies that have both something creamy like a banana and hemp seeds? That helps carry the texture of the powder. However, if it's still not to your liking, I like what you chose instead... hemp butter. :)

    Thanks for coming by. :)

    XOXO,
    Kristen

  3. Oh this looks yum Kristen. Very unusual mix up though. And I love the idea of fruit loops eh! The Saudi's love rosewater on their hand towels when I make them up hot towels before landing on my plane. We have rosewater everywhere in the middle east.

Hey I just went to Wholefoods today here in Houston to get the ingredients for some protein grenades for Pat. I read your whole post out to him whilst driving the other day and he is uber keen to try them out! Thanks for keeping me (us) inspired.

  7. love your smoothie dance! the recipe sounds really yummy. i love anything with pineapple and coconut.

i've been looking for a natural perfume. orange blossom water and rose water sound nice, but i wonder if the scent will last. i am growing lavender to make lavender oil as well. can you suggest any chemical-free alternatives to perfume?

  13. Hi! I'm totally going to try this one soon! How far along are you now? :) I am only 8 weeks pregnant - but we also have a 4-week-old baby boy with us that we are in the process of adopting :) He's a total angel! You're looking amazing - are you doing coconut oil as your stretch-mark prevention? Sorry to ramble!!!

    Keep up the great work!

  14. Hi Emelia,
Let me check my iPhone app for how far I'm a long, lol.... OK, I'm almost 26 weeks. Congrats to you for both babies!

I have done a variety of things for the stretch marks and I'm not sure when they're supposed to come, if they do, but I don't have any. I've used coconut oil, Dr. Alkaitis treatment oil, Sprout Wellness All-Over Cream, Miessence Breast & Belly Lotion, Raw almond oil, and probably some other things in there that I can't remember. :)

    Cheers,
    Kristen

  16. Hi Kristen! This looks absolutely DELICIOUS. I do have a question for you though: in this recipe, you combine sweet fruits, acid fruits, nuts, and fats. Do you find that this is an ok combination? Do you follow food combining?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Great question!
I don't follow food combing rules usually. I'm a stickler to keep my melons separate though! And, sure, some days I make it a point to follow some rules, but I'm really flexible generally. Plus, I don't have digestive issues so it's not as important for me in my opinion. :)

  19. I've got coconut right off the tree in my "new" yard. I am looking for a video how to get the husk off the coconut correctly before I get to the three eyes. Can anyone help?
