I am still getting emails from people who love this recipe that I shared in my last email newsletter so I thought I better get it into more hands and blog it.
Cayenne Tahini Dressing

Yield 1 cup
I love this dressing so much. During the month of December, I made it so many times that it probably graced about 22+ salads in that time. It's so simple, delicious, and creamy. Don't let the "cayenne" in the title discourage you from making it, as you can adjust that amount to suit your taste. This recipe is great on fresh, crisp romaine salads and as a dip for veggies. I crave its deliciousness and can't seem to get enough! It's a recipe from my book and ebook, Kristen Suzanne's EASY Raw Vegan Salads & Dressings.
1/4 - 1/2 cup water or raw olive oil (I usually use 1/2 cup water)
1/2 cup raw tahini
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice or lime juice
1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (I usually use 1/2 tsp)
1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan crystal salt (I usually use 1/2 tsp)
Blend all of the ingredients until smooth, adding more water as needed (or you can use a mixture of water and oil if you're aiming for an extra creamy, rich dressing).
Serving suggestions:
~ I love how organic romaine lettuce beautifully holds up to this dressing.
~ Perfect for jazzing up any raw organic veggies like carrots, celery, red bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini... the list goes on and on.
~ For cooked foodies out there... dip sprouted bread or toast into it!
Variations:
~ Have fun and make it different each time. Add a handful of organic basil, and then the next time try a handful of organic cilantro, or try a handful of organic parsley. They're all delicious!

It'll be delish on kale salad, but it might not "marinate" it like the lemon/oil/salt combo that is common.

ReplyDeleteI was at whole foods looking at the cleaning products and wondering for the 100th time if I should get a fruit and veggie wash or if it is just a way to spend money, cause more work for myself, and use more crap I don't need or add more residue. I know you buy all organic but I'm sure still wash your produce. Do you have any thoughts on these wash products? do you use one? Have you done any research or used one? thanks. I love your advice.

ReplyDeleteIt's a great question and I've done the same as you... stood in the aisle wondering which is best. What I came up with are two ways to wash my produce that I feel comfortable with:
Distilled White Vinegar
Vinegar can also be used as a produce wash. Just get a spray bottle and fill it with 3 parts water, 1 part vinegar. Spray on produce, rub/scrub, and rinse.
OR Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide
This is one of my favorite ways to clean. It can be used on its own to help disinfect areas like the kitchen, bathroom, tile floors, etc. I also use this as a veggie wash. Check out this website for more information, tips, and uses. http://www.agriorganics.com/agriculture.php?Pid=12

Okay so I haven't done a ton of salads in my raw journey just because it is so expected and I like eating other things. ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, you can just leave the cayenne out if you want, or sure, you can put some black pepper in if you like that better... maybe start with 1/4 teaspoon.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe I could massage it with oil first then use the dressing, that might be too much though. Oh well, I'll let you know if I end up doing it! HUGS!

Tahini dressings are my fave! I think I'd need to nix the cayenne in this one, since my tolerance for heat is low, but it sounds awesome!
