High Raw, All Vegan Food Intake - Monday

I planned this menu last night before I went to bed. Read here about why planning your daily food is a great idea and how it can help you stick to your healthy eating goals.

Organic Green Juice
I started the day by making 5 cups of green juice with my Hurom juicer. I drank 3 cups and stored the other 2 cups for later in the day. The juice had cucumber, celery, collard greens, lime, orange, and apple. It was fabulous! I tell ya... so many women say that they get constipated with pregnancy. I have to say... it's not happening with me. I attribute it to my super healthy diet.

Protein Bar
This bar wasn't Raw, but it was vegan, macrobiotic, had non-gmo and organic ingredients, and was high protein. It was darn tasty, too, as it should be when one of the ingredients is organic brown rice syrup, huh? Lol

Organic Salad, Crunchy Buckwheat Biscuit, and Raw Sauerkraut
Oh... yum... this lunch was so awesome. I made a fresh salad with romaine lettuce and red bell peppers from our CSA, along with cucumbers. The dressing was refreshing - organic lemon juice, Raw olive oil, Himalayan crystal salt, black pepper, and dried Italian seasoning. Alongside the salad I had one of my Crunchy Buckwheat Biscuits and topped it with my homemade organic Raw sauerkraut. The juice of the sauerkraut seeped into the biscuit, making it a little soft in spots. SO GOOD!!! I promise to get the recipe to you very soon (maybe this week!). These biscuits are full of flavor and nutrition!

Green Juice - 2 cups
Here is where I had the rest of the green juice I made from this morning. I drank it while doing a little dance to Nelly's Tilt Ya Head Back (featuring Christina Aguilera). I can't help but get up and BOOGY DOWN! Seriously! :) I can't wait to have this baby and dance around the house holding him/her. :)

Savory Veggies, Crunchy Buckwheat Biscuit, and Raw Sauerkraut
I made a batch of this popular marinade recipe of mine, and I'm topping the following vegetables with it: organic portobello mushroom, carrots, red bell pepper, and broccoli. I'll have another Crunchy Buckwheat Biscuit topped with my Raw sauerkraut with it, too.

Frozen Organic Banana Protein Smoothie See recipe here.
I'm adding extra carob for this so it's more dessert like. I sure do love RAW FOOD!!!!

  2. But what if your baby is not into hip hop? :)

Gorgeous, gorgeous food for what I'm sure is a very happy little one.

  3. Awesome day! :) So inspiring, as usual! Can't wait to try out that smoothie when I get my Vitamix! And please share the biscuit recipe soon! :)

  4. Please keep posting your daily meals. It is very helpful for a beginner vegan/raw vegan

  5. I love reading what you eat in a day. It's so inspiring.

  6. I think my baby will like something that I like since I like almost everything. ;)

Plus... I felt so happy and good when I was listening to it that I felt my body fill with feel-good endorphins. I'm sure my baby was feeling good from it, too. :)

  7. I wish I could plan out my daily meals! That would make life so much easier. I'm always worried that meal plans will mess with intuitive eating. Do you ever find that your craving something entirely different from you planned on eating? Just curious.

Needless to say, such beautiful nourishing food! Gotta admit -- I'm slightly envious of your baby. That's going to be one lucky, well fed child. :) You're going to have to write a cookbook for raw kid food!

  8. Your smoothie makes me swoon :)

So if you don't eat a raw protein bar and/or one you've created, I'd love to know what you do purchase. There are times when I need to use storebought bars; would love to hear what your picks are!

    Have a great nite, Kristen!

  9. Here's a question: When I make green juice at home with my juicer, and start drinking it immediately after I'm done, it starts to turn brown. By the time I finish, the juice at the bottom of my cup is already brown!

When I get fresh green juice made for me at Whole Foods, it stays bright green for waaaaay longer!

    Any idea why that is?

    Thanks,
    Nicole

  10. Hi Kristen! I have to try your green juice recipe! I'm still deciding on which juicer to get...Where do you buy carob powder? I have been looking for it but cannot find it. Have a great Monday!

  11. Try Amazon.com for Raw carob.http://www.amazon.com/Really-Raw-Carob-Powder-16-Ounce/dp/B001691P6C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1260841374&sr=8-2

    Hi Averie,
I have been known to eat Vega bars, but I just don't get excited about those. The bar I had today was by GoMacro. It was quite good... especially as compared to bars... rarely are they good, ya know? I do make my own sometimes, but not always.

  12. Hi Nicole,
It sounds like it's oxidizing. What juicer do you use and what are the ingredients (or does that happen all the time?)?

  13. No that wasn't it, Averie... :) here is the link:

  14. Thanks for the linky. I will keep my eyes out for those for the "in a pinch" moments :)

  15. Hi Heather!

I usually stick to it, but that's because I can usually still intuitively eat when I plan (plus, a great deal of it has to do with what is in my refrigerator).

However, I have been known to change it up a bit. The planning is used as a great guide for inspiration and to keep me on track. If I decide I want a green smoothie instead of a frozen banana one, and I had a plan for frozen banana... no biggie. Or, like yesterday, I had planned a kale salad with certain ingredients, but when I went to make it, I changed it up! :) My intuition said, "pineapple and orange." :)

    Cheers,
    Kristen

  16. I bought it at Whole Foods, Averie (Scottsdale/Mayp/101). :) They were actually IN the Raw food section, although they're not Raw. ;)

  18. Everything looks so delicious! Definitely gave me some food ideas for the day. Can't wait for the New Year to treat myself to some of your ebooks for even more inspiration.

could you possibly be any cuter? haha.

  20. Awesome! Thanks for responding. That makes more sense. :) I've been wanting to do tentative meal plans for a while - as I do think it'll help with groceries and budgeting, especially when I move out again next month. It's always a bit overwhelming handing my own fridge at first.

Anyway, you're wonderfully inspiring, Kristen. :]

  21. I love that song! It makes me want to dance also :)

Do you know of any good Sauerkraut makers that are less expensive than the one you use? I'd love to be able to make my own, but on a student budget!

  22. "I attribute it to my super healthy diet."

It could also be luck of the draw, genetics, etc. I have had 3 pregnancies and have never been constipated during any of them. For the first, I was eating SAD. The second I was eating traditional foods (WAPF). The third I was eating relatively healthfully, but not any particular diet.

  23. I plan my meals the day before as well! Been doing so for a couple years, and I can definitely tell that it's helped me to stay on track with healthy eating.

By the way, I can't believe I'm just now checking out your blog! I'm adding you to my blogroll now so I'll be coming by much more often. Thanks for being an inspiration!

  24. Hi Katie, :)
Actually, I can speak for myself and attribute it to diet, because I know my body and the difference in my bathroom trips when I'm eating very healthy vs when I'm not. Although genetics could play a role for people, such as yourself, there is a reason that pretty much every doctor and midwife recommend that women pay extra attention to getting more fiber in their diets when pregnant to help with the constipation aspect. :)

    Cheers,
    Kristen

  25. Hi, I am just starting to add Green Smoothies to my life to add more healthy things to my diet! I noticed in another post you are using hypnosis for birth! I wanted to share my link to a website with over 200 birth stories of moms who used Hypnobabies.

    Enjoy!

  26. Hi Sheridan,
Thanks for the link. I've only researched the hypnobaby stuff a bit and decided to go with the hypnobirthing (not even quite sure I remember the difference), but I loved our instructor which is really important. I'm only using it as a tool to help with the pregnancy and not expecting to necessarily rely on it.

    Thanks!
    Kristen

  27. Wow, you really are eating great. You're doing much better than I did.

You are going to have so much fun dancing with your little one. My little lady loves to dance with me, especially when it is a John Mayer song. She is in awe of him. I hope it is just musically, as he doesn't have the best track record with the ladies.

That protein smoothie sounds delicious. I could actually stomach those toward the end of my pregnancy, and still drink something similar while breastfeeding. That's when you really need a nutritional boast. Sometimes I feel like I've run a marathon after a few consecutive feedings, as you can tell by looking at her (the pics on my site show how good of an eater she is; a vegan diet is not depriving her).

Glad to hear all is well. The time will fly by fast. You'll have your little monkey in your arms soon :-)

By the way, I almost typed "he." Are you going to find out the sex? I wonder why "he" came to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi ShannonMarie,
Thanks for commenting. It's always great to hear from you! We're not going to find out the sex. Weird for me because I always want to know my gifts ahead of time and I always want to give gifts to people before their appropriate time... but there is something about this... that I just want to give us the gift of surprise on the actual day of birth. :)

Many people say they have the feeling it's a girl. I have no feeling really either way... but then again, I suck at picking lottery numbers, too. ;)

    Love,
    Kristen

  29. I've missed reading your blog lately, so I was happy to find time to stop by.

I had wanted the sex to be a surprise when I had my son, but my hubby wanted to know. I just couldn't handle him knowing and me not. It would've driven me crazy. Also, it was pretty obvious during the sonogram what he was.

As for Hayden, I was dying to find out if God really gave me the girl I asked for. After trying for years for baby #2, I said I wouldn't give up if God would give me a girl. I got pregnant 1 week after telling someone that.

I'm not good with Lottery numbers either, although I did win $3 on a scratch off last week. If everyone else thinks it is a girl, than I'm probably wrong. I just keep referring to your little monkey as a he, and then I realize that you don't know if it is a he or a she yet. Weird.
