Kristen's Raw 17th Awesome Giveaway - FREE RAW VITAMINS!

It's time for another awesome giveaway (here was the last giveaway I hosted). The prize for January? RAW VITAMINS from VITAMIN CODE. I will be drawing the name of 1 winner for a bottle of their
Vitamin Code Raw D3 - The Hottest Nutrient Under The Sun. (How cool of them to offer this to my readers!)

Right now, with this being winter in the United States, I suspect there are a lot of people out there who are in need of this important nutrient! Vitamin D3 is vital for many functions including to help build a stronger immune system. Here is what Vitamin Code / Garden of Life had to say about Vitamin D3...

As vitamin D deficiency has become more prevalent, the attention and focus paid to vitamin D have increased, and for good reason. Most people familiar with vitamin D understand that this nutrient is essential to skeletal system health.† Along with calcium, vitamin D is considered vital for maintaining healthy bones.† Vitamin D actually regulates the use of calcium in the body by dramatically increasing its absorption and utilization.

Much of the interest in vitamin D stems from the fact that it’s found throughout the body in over 600 receptor sites including the brain and the heart. Due to the fact that vitamin D receptors are so prevalent in the body, research has increased on vitamin D, and seemingly everyday new studies tout the health benefits of vitamin D consumption.

Recent studies have also shown that vitamin D supports immune health by helping to regulate the immune system.† The brain is home to dozens of vitamin D receptor sites, and vitamin D has been shown to enhance memory and concentration.† Vitamin D supports healthy digestion, again since receptor sites are found from the mouth all the way through the intestines.† Healthy vitamin D levels support two increasing areas of concern—breast health for women and prostate health for men.†
†These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

ARE YOU READY TO WIN???
It's simple to participate! All you have to do is answer the following question in this post's comment section. The contest will end Friday night, January 22th @ 11:59pm. I'll enter everyone's name who answered the question into a drawing and announce the winner on my blog Saturday, January 23rd. (Please note: While I would love to hear from everyone around the world in answering this question, I have to limit the winners to people living in the continental United States.)

QUESTION: What is one of your 2010 New Year's Resolutions / Goals that you're still sticking with today?

But that's not all! Vitamin Code is also sponsoring another giveaway for my readers for their RAW Cleanse product. Great timing, too, as I bet a bunch of you are working on your New Year's Resolutions for healthier, cleaner living. This product could be a great way to support that. Be sure to check back over the next couple of weeks for that giveaway.

  1. I don't really make New Year's Resolutions, but one main goal that I've had so far this year has been simplification. I've been purging so many things that I don't need or use and removing the physical or virtual clutter around me. I think sometimes we need to go back to basics and reevaluate a lot of things that we deal with every day that suck our time, energy, etc. that we forget about or become numb with because they are so routine.

  2. Exciting giveaway!

I don't do New Years Resolution lists anymore but I did opt to do a Vision Board. One of the things that I'm still sticking with is being more consistent with eating a high raw diet. At times its been a struggle but I do believe I have my focus back.

    Thanks for this opportunity!
    Take Care.

  3. i am still sticking to eating 2 raw vegan meals a day! yay me! lol..wat about you?

  4. How cool! Here's my answer:

Getting my bills paid on time consistently, and not allowing them to fall behind any longer. :-)

  5. I just bought a juicer and cleaned out my pantry of "Bad" foods. my new years resolution was to always have fresh fruits and veggies in the house.. and so far its working. these vitamins sound amazing!

  9. I have a few extra inches to lose but I don't do NY resolutions - only LIFE resolutions. I just want to be as healthy as possible. I am trying to make sure I get at least one green smoothie and one juice in daily. Plus I'm trying to up my RAW food intake while still losing the extra inches!

    ReplyDelete
  10. My goal is to get back on the green smoothie bandwagon & eat more raw, which I'm doing :)

  11. I'm going to be completely vegan (started 3 months ago) for the whole year!

  12. Hi Kristen, I just wanted to mention that I am so thrilled for winning your last vitamin giveaway - thanks again! - and I apologize that I havent blogged about it yet. I'm still using up my old, less superior, non-raw vitamins first ;) but cant wait to try the new ones soon. Thanks again!

  13. My resolution is to limit my use of credit cards and open a ROTH IRA. I put my credit cards away at the beginning of the month. I use to use them almost everyday. This month I put my cards away and only pulled them out twice for gas. Now I have money sent to a separate account for fun money. I am automating my bills and opening a ROTH IRA at the beginning of February. Yea for investing!

  16. Great Giveaway!

Lose weight.. I know so cliche' but it's true. I just had my 3rd baby, and would love to get back into my "before I met my husband jeans"

    AND become healthier!

  17. I'll check Antony.

    Great goals/resolutions/vision boards! :)

  18. What a great prize!! I'm out of D3 and searched high and low for a vegan one. I don't think I've seen this in any store I've checked.

I'm not one for resolutions, but I have decided to use the rest of 2010 to research the best way for coming off my medication for hypothyroidism. I don't know if this is possible, but it is something that I'd love to explore and learn more about. If I think I can do it safely (after my research and talking to my doctor), I'm gonna try to stop taking it in 2011!

  19. First, Kristen, I want to say that you are AWESOME! I have your raw entrees book and dehydrator book and I honestly do not know what I did before them! They rock! Thank you! Also, thank you for the amazing opportunity to win raw vitamins! I have Celiac Disease and getting proper nutrition is very important for me!

What is one of your 2010 New Year's Resolutions / Goals that you're still sticking with today?

My big resolution is to achieve balance in my life. Mind, Body, and Soul. It's been a year filled with constant changes in diet, allergic reactions, emotional upsets, severe weight loss and malnutrition and confusion and I am so ready to find balance with it all.

A goal I'm still sticking with today is working to achieve my healthy weight and BMI. When I got sick from the Celiac I lost almost 20 lbs on my already petite frame and now I've gained 10 back. On the road to recovery :)

    Thanks again Kristen!
    Live simply, simply live,
    Melissa

  20. Giving up DDP... my code for Diet Dr. Pepper. I had given it up completely but then we were travelling a lot and it came back it to my life at gas stops. I know I know! 20 lashes! But I have stuck with it so far :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't make resolutions anymore, but I do set intentions at the beginning of the year. This year is stability. So far I have gotten an offer to go full-time at one of my jobs, I'm out of debt, and have purchased some things that have been on my wishlist for years (like a Vitamix!).

    ReplyDelete
  22. To maintain healthy eating habits, and to be better organized with time, house, work...everything!

    ReplyDelete
  23. My New Years Resolution was multi-faceted. It includes going to church every week (3 for 3), spending more time being grateful for the blessings in my life (which are many, and I think I have been doing well) and generally trying to keep a more positive and upbeat attitude. I have been doing pretty well, but not perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  24. My new years goal for this year and beyond is to breath. Breathing my be natural act and it is. However for myself I tend to blow up situations into worry. This leads to insomnia and depression for me. So far since day one I've been meditating on God's word and practicing yoga. Through both of these I've found myself breathing through issues with an assurance that God has my whole life planned. I just have to listen to Him and Breathe!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am still 100% vegan and loving it! I also went to a raw fruit and veggie diet as of the 1st and am sticking to it! 2010 is going to be the best!

    ReplyDelete
  26. My goal is to eat healthy and stick to a diet this time. My health is more important than anything at this point. And to drink way more water and RELAX and not be so crazy

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey Kristen!

One of mine was to pray more and I have stuck with it !:)

    ReplyDelete
  28. My resolution is to lose weight and eat so much healthier and drink alot more water than I do. Life is too short not live healthy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. One of my many goals this year is to organize all my digital photos. Since having kids I have taken a gazillion photos, yet have printed out none and they are all so unorganized! It's time to print out some photo books and print some to frame.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My goal this year is to get in exercise regularly. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. to call my parents more and build our relationship stronger!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kristen - I'd love to hear your thoughts on how "vegan" this D3 really is. I don't mean to be a stick in the mud or anything, but in my opinion, it doesn't seem vegan (unless I'm misunderstanding something)... According to the Garden of Life website, they purchase lanolin (from sheep) & then clone D3?? Is that right? I know it's approved by the Vegan Society, so I'm confused! I know it's approved by the Vegan Society, so I'm confused!

I know vitamin D is important (and I take a vegan supplement in the winter), but I didn't think D3 could ever be vegan! Your thoughts are appreciated! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. What a great giveaway!

I don't have a specific resolution, but more of a general thing to strive for: balance. I want to do my best to maintain balance in my life (work, others, myself), in my relationships (not being too selfish or selfless), in my diet (healthy foods vs the occasional indulgence), and my exercise (good workouts vs necessary rest time). Balance is almost impossible to obtain in everything, but it's worth striving for!

    ReplyDelete
  34. No stick in the mud darling ;) let me try to get you an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My resolution: eat what I buy from the grocery/farmer's market. Lack of planning on my part seems to equal either buying too much of something or buying something that looks good at the store but somehow never makes it to the table. In 2010 I want to do a better job buying only what we will eat, eating what I buy, and wasting less all around.

  37. Hi Jess of Veg Out,

I read their website and contacted them for more info, but their website is pretty detailed as to how and why they made the product. I can appreciate your unease that they purchased an animal product in order to synthesize this vegan version.( I admit I'm grateful that I live in a sunny state and don't feel the need to supplement with Vitamin D). That being said... for vegan people who don't get enough sunshine, this can be a way to get it... especially since we are so deficient as a culture. The possible consequences of low levels is proving to be scary.

I think there is a similar issue/challenge that vegans experience is... how your organic food is grown. From my understanding, our food is grown with animal fertilizer, unless you're fortunate to have food that is "veganic" which means vegan fertilizers. I've only found one product at Whole Foods (tomatoes) that are both organic and veganic. More vegan food for thought, eh?

Again, I can appreciate your concern - I'm a hardcore vegan for ethical / political reasons. My recommendation is getting Vitamin D levels tested. If they're low, my solution is to live in a sunny state. ;) And, if you can't do that... I would find the most vegan friendly product to support healthy Vitamin D levels.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Okay, thanks, Kristen! I agree with the vegetable analogy. I know that my food is grown using animal fertilizers, but in my mind, that's something I can't control. Luckily, I *can* control which supplements I take, and I can ensure that they're vegan.

Don't get me wrong - Garden of Life seems like a great company, but I'm not sure I agree that this product is "vegan." (I'm not sure that I DON'T agree, either, though.) Food for thought, anyway! Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would LOVE to enter! I was looking for this product last week and couldn't find it except online and couldn't order it yet.
I have made a handful of resolutions and have faithfully stuck to two of them:
    1. Smile more!
    2. Don't fret about upcoming birth of my baby and having a newborn and a two year-old. After all, everything will be just fine :-)

    Thanks Kristen!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I, like other commenters don't really make "resolutions.." I make goals as I go, so if it isn't a goal that can be made now, I know that I need to let my life go in another direction before I can get there. However, in the middle of December I did committ to doing Bikram yoga as much as possible over my winter break and to go to at least one class a week during the semester! And guess what-- I LOVE IT TO PIECES and am a life-long convert. Give me some heat and I'm a happy girl!!

    Thanks for the giveaway ;)

  41. The resolution that I am sticking with so far is to live life more consciously. Conscious living seems like a silly thing to strive for, but I "woke up" to life this year with the help of raw food. So many people on this planet are living life by going through the motions instead of actually experiencing what life has to offer. Deadening our energies with food and negative mental thoughts keeps us asleep while eating vibrant, living foods and thinking positive thoughts helps us to enjoy everything in life - and to enjoy it longer ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. My goal or resolution is actually my intention. I use that language as it resonates more with me than goal. I realize it's splicing hairs a bit :) but anyway, my intention is to read fewer/comment on fewer blogs. So far, I'm getting worse and not better :) but there are so many friends I want to keep up with and so much great info out there that I can't pry myself away as much as I'd like!

    Great giveaway, Kristen!

  43. I made my new years resolution back in august to lift more weights to get in optimal shape. I want to have a strong body to carry me into the next few decades of my life.
Yes, vitamin D3 is so very important to the body. I have been dying to try this product for some time now. I take their greens drink EOD.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi again Jess,
Thanks for coming back to chat. My next question, because I'm curious... if you found out you were vitamin D deficient, what would you do?

I don't have the best answer - wish I did. Part of me would want to avoid anything animal related... part of me realizes that this is the next best thing if someone can't get enough vitamin D from sunshine - it's a big step toward making "something" available for vegans, especially if you have an illness that is shown to be improved and helped with vitamin D3.

Perhaps if they had more info on the animal procuring part that would help. How "friendly" is it?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I've been reading about the importance of vitamin D3, and I know I'm not getting enough sun here in freezing cold New Jersey. My New Year's Resolution is to manage my time better (work less, play more).

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't really do NY resolutions, but a goal I'm working on is continuing to add more raw foods to mine and my husband's diets =) So far so good!

    ReplyDelete
  47. My goals for 2010 are to de-clutter. I realize so many extra things really weigh on you and I will feel better without it all and to be more organize. My other goal is to continue my life wiht a high content of raw beautiful greens and food.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Although not officially written down as a "new years resolution," I really wanted to make sure I was more organized in my job (I'm a special ed teacher.) I felt like I was scrambling during the week, so I am now working on making sure my entire lesson plan is complete before the next week starts as well as having a separate page for my "to do" "to print/copy" "to make" "to buy" etc. This is the one thing I have been consistent in my improvement on this year. (So far! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Eating 3 meals a day during daylight hours. Two are defenitely raw, 1 is either raw or cooked, and always everything vegan:)

    ReplyDelete
  50. I didn't make any official resolutions, but I am trying to eat more raw and move towards a vegan diet (I'm vegetarian now.) In general, I am just moving towards a healthier me.

    ReplyDelete
  51. That is so awesome that GOL came out with a RAW VEGAN vitamin D! I moved to Colorado recently and am having major problems with seasonal affective disorder, and recurrent flu symptoms (which I have researched are caused by lack of vitamin D), I will totally be buying this product even if I don't win!

My new year's resolution for 2010 is to always think positive thoughts. It's not an absolute though, if I think a negative though, I just consciously make an effort to turn it into a positive one or let it fall away immediately. I have made resolutions that are all or nothing in the past and they just set me up for failure. Thinking positive thoughts encompasses EVERYTHING in my life and there is no failure because thoughts are easily changed!

oh, and my other not so profound resolution is to grow my hair to mid-back using the Morocco method and NOT heat styling anymore!! I recently cut off 6 inches or so of hair that was in really bad shape from bleaching, dying and frying- so in 2010 I want a beautiful healthy head of hair !

  53. My resolution is to do more yoga. Simple and practical .. but fits into my larger goal of reducing my anxiety and building strength.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have been vegetarian for over 30 years- since I was 8 years old. I have been vegan for a little more than 2 years. I love being vegan! My New Year's resolution is to eat more raw and less processed foods. So far, so good!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Can I enter if I give you a US address of a relative in the event that I win (who can then forward them to me)?! If so, count me in! In any case, one of my goals was to increase the daily raw factor for both myself and my husband, and we are rocking it! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. oh- I also wanted to add- that even if you live in a sunny state, vitamin D deficiency is still an issue unless you live somewhere WARM. You have to be mostly naked and stay in the sun 10-2 hours depending on your skin type to get the RDA. Colorado is considered sunny, with 260 or so sunny days out of the year, but it is so cold 3/4 of the time that I am constantly covered up head to toe- definitely cannot get ANY vitamin D that way! Good news is that if you live anywhere south of LA (latitude) you can make enough vitamin D through your skin year round.

I also want to say something about sunscreen- it's a scam!! It's toxic, it blocks your body's natural signal to get out of the sun in time (burn) and cancer has not statistically gone down without it!

sun is good!! prana!! life force energy!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh man - I'm throwing my food guilt out the window! I've done really well so far. I figure that as long as I eat wonderful raw and whole foods, there is no reason for me to fret about calories or working out excessively.
I'm working on my inner, spiritual self rather than my physical outer self in 2010!

Those vitamins look awesome, I'd looove to try them.

  62. What is one of your 2010 New Year's Resolutions / Goals that you're still sticking with today?

I made several - but two that i've been acing are no caffeinated coffee!! and no meat of any kind - this is easy b/c i've been veg for years but i recommit each new year:) the coffee one has been a big challenge - and i've indulged in a few cups of decaf but mostly i've been having a hot carob drink instead! Yahoo! And One MORE - was the start back to work on my masters degree - and i start my first class Feb 15!

and i would LOVE to win the vitamins:) or anything else for that matter haha... I am loving seeing your pregnancy progress and am incredibly happy for you!

  74. I always say I want to be healthier, and every year I get closer to my idea of total health. As time passes, more organic and less processed foods make their way to my family's table. I learn about new vitamins to take, I grow fruits and veges in our backyard, and I try to exercise in a well-rounded manner. With the birth of our first child last year, I've seen the results of healthy eating and smart supplementation. I'm amazed at how much of a difference good habits can make, in both her developing life, and my own as well. I plege to do everything I can to keep my family's health optimal and strong!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't do New Years resolutions, instead I make changes throughout the year, whenever I think of them, and then try to stick with them. We're two years into daily green smoothies right now, and going strong (2 or 3 a day). Also, about four months ago I resolved to start making our bed every day, and I haven't missed a day since (I used to only make it once or twice a week before that). It makes such a huge difference in what our room looks like, and it gets the whole day off to a good start.

  78. Kristen, My son (1) was just diagnosed with many many food allergies. I know you use alot of nuts in your recipes- i just bought two of your books :-) (peanuts and nuts are two of his allergies) . Is it still possible to be on a Raw vegan diet without nuts?
    Jessie.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Absolutely! Many people do it and avoid nuts. They get fats from coconut or avocado, etc. On that note... can your son have seeds (sunflower? pumpkin?)? And, Can he have hemp seeds? I know a lot of people who suffer from allergies for nuts can have success with hemp seeds. If so, you can replace hemp in many of the recipes... no need to soak it either. :)

I have already lost 25 pounds since last Sept. My goal for this year is to lose at least 20 more and to continue to eat as much organic, raw food as possible and then to continue to do this for the rest of my life. I'll be 50 in 4 years and I want to be healthy for whatever time I have left on this planet. I also plan to encourage all those around me to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Mine is simple....to eat way healthier with my daughter. My daughter who is in high school has started a blog about the benefits of eating organic and cutting back on processed food. It has been a huge hit and she has even been written about in her school newspaper:) We are both trying out new recipes and new foods.

So far in the 19 days of meals in 2010, I've only made 5 non-raw meals [not counting meals I made just for my husband and did not have a bite]...and though I've not enjoyed everything I've made so far, mostly I feel great and am encouraged that I can do this!

  90. I am resolved to define and live out my passion, eliminating the unnecessary and embracing the Divine within in all aspects of my life. The means of doing so include eating "high raw" and more vegan (from our own garden0, of course!

  91. OH MY GOSH
how perfect is THIS...I am actually finally ready to try taking a supplement again (I am not a fan normally) but I wasn't able to donate blood last week and I thought my iron etc was PERFECTLY high so I was bummed and it got me thinking. (that and I have been hearing a lot about Vit d lately too.

New Years' Resos? I am still drinking green smoothies (or raw green soup or raw salad) daily, yoga/pilates daily along with one full raw day a week *saturday*

    LOVING IT!
    thanks for a great giveaway

  92. Wow, awesome giveaway Kristen! I love Vitamin Code products! I am in serious need of some Vitamin D too : )

My New Years resolution was to be less angry and come to terms with my decision to be 100% Raw for life. It's been 9 months at 100% so I'm getting more used to it everyday. Now that I have Teecino I may make it ; )

  93. This isn't an entry, since I've got the women's multi already, but I wanted to say that I am SUPER picky about vitamins and the Vitamin Code ones totally won me over! What an awesome giveaway.

  94. I know you said one resolution, but I have three:

Incorporate more raw foods with the intention of being 80-100% raw by summer!

Go back to school, I've finally decided I want to go into dietics/nutrition :)

Work on a large project, preferably something creative that will/could include lots of people.

I guess those could be boiled down to one resolution:

    Body, Mind, and Spiritual wellness!

  95. Hi again, Kristen! I just saw your follow-up comment. In the winter, I take a (vegan) D2 supplement by DEVA & I feel great. I had my yearly physical last August & all my blood tests came back healthy! No deficiencies of any kind. (I'd been vegan for a little over 2 years at that point.) Honestly, I don't know what I'd do if I was vitamin D deficient & it was determined that this D2 wasn't cutting it.

I live in snowy Minnesota & this D2 seems just as effective as anything else - but I guess I can't compare it against anything else, either. I just know that I feel better than ever & I haven't needed D3 to help me get there - but that doesn't mean someone else isn't different, you know?

I agree that it'd be nice to know more about the lanolin procuring process. But again, I'm not knocking this product & I'm not saying it's *necessarily* unethical just because the original source is lanolin. I know things aren't so black & white. I'm just confused how this product is certified vegan & how they can say that the D3 is synthisized from plant sources when the original source is lanolin...

Sorry to take attention away from this giveaway. I know we all have to make our own choices about what is "vegan" or not & there's not always an obvious line! I just thought maybe you could explain it in a way that the website didn't because their info was confusing to me. Thanks for your input!

  96. Hi Jess,
I didn't mind the dialogue. It's a good one so thanks for bringing it up. :)

  97. I resolved to do something crazy and out of ordinary for me this year... and I started by repelling from a height of what would be a 3-story building. By the end of the month I will be repelling from a height of bearly 100 feet.

  98. I asked for a body brush for Christmas, and I have been dry brushing every day!

  99. This year I did something different. I resolved to NOT resolve to lose weight. Instead, I resolved to get healthy and cleaned out!!! Waste equals weight (thanks Natalia Rose!), so I figure if I get the gunk out, the weight will go, too. So far, so good. With raw, living foods, I've lost 14 pounds already this year. :o)

  100. One of my goals is to not eat wheat, dairy, and refined sugar for 6 months. SO far so good!

  101. My New Year's Resolution is the same as always...to achieve balance! Balance between nutrition, exercise, my social life, work...everything. Life is so complicated. I think this will the year where I start to figure out more about myself and how I can really allow time and energy for everything in my life. I'm excited for 2010 :)

  102. Hi!
I just found your blog through girl on raw.
Fantastic stuff and what an exciting giveaway!

My new years resolution was to give up coffee and I haven't touched the stuff since! I also got a white board, hung it above my desk and wrote all my goals for 2010 down. So now one achievement at a time I can check off them off and work my way through them while staying motivated.
Love all the recipes here, your really inspiring.

  103. Probably my biggest resolution is to love more, do more good things no matter how small, be more open to opportunities, people, and the universe in general :)

  104. This year I resolved to learn to love my body, no matter my weight or jeans size. Having lost 90 lbs and gained 25, you can imagine that my mental state is somewhat affected by that. Now that we're expecting again, I've gotta learn to love these thighs!

  105. To Jess an Kirsten,

regarding Lanolin. It is in no way vegan. If it comes from an animal it simply isn't vegan. What Garden of Life is doing is simply saying we can take a non vegan source and make it vegan.

    Look at their website
    http://www.gardenoflife.com/ProductsforLife/THEVITAMINCODE/TargetedNutrientFormulas/RAWD3/tabid/1896/Default.aspx

Nothing on their says vegan anymore, because whole foods kicked them out and said comeback to ous with honest labeling.

If you can't trust them to be honest about their products being vegan how can you trust them at all?

  106. My New Years resolution: To be vegan. I started January 1st, and have been 100% vegan so far.

    Very happy! :)

  107. I'm sticking with vegan eating and using my VitaMix to make amazing green smoothies!!!

  108. My New Year's Resolution was to incorporate more raw foods into my already vegan diet. It's going VERY well so far! Using my dehydrator and VitaMix really helps :)

  109. Great blog and recipes. I made my resolution in November and have still stuck to it. I chose the vegan lifestyle and mostly raw foods too. This is an excellent giveaway! Thanks!

  110. I don't really make resolutions, but right now I'm on day 2 of a 10-day cleanse. When this is up, I'm going to try to transition to a higher-raw diet than I was eating before (I'm vegan, but I eat mostly cooked foods). I'm hoping this will stoke my appetite for living foods. Can't wait!

  111. Hey Clayton,
Here is the email I received from GoL...

"Recently you may have heard that Garden of Life has agreed to make adjustments on the packaging and positioning of a few products. Along with introduction of the Grow Bone System, we introduced the first ever Vitamin D3 that is considered Vegan based on a 30 year old re-naturing process used by our manufacturer, Grow Company, which mimics nutrient metabolism by a plant. We remain confident in our position and feel this process offers an option for Vitamin D3 not currently available in stores.

Due to the philosophical difference in opinions around this issue, we will be removing the Vegan claim on products that contain this re-natured D3. The strength of our position has not changed, the current labels are backed by extensive reviews and documented opinions by both internal and external science and legal experts. However, in order to help you avoid consumer questions and unnecessary debate around this issue, we will simply remove the Vegan claim and add one statement on the back of future packaging: “For more information on the vegan nature of the vitamin D in this product go to www.gardenoflife.com/d3.”

For your information, we have also agreed to work with Whole Foods to exchange the current packaging of a few products containing the re-natured D3 with packaging that does not make the Vegan claim. The products in this exchange include Grow Bone System, RAW Calcium, RAW ONE for Men, RAW ONE for Women, and Vitamin Code RAW Prenatal. Contrary to the misinformation being spread by some companies, these products were not discontinued by Whole Foods or recalled by Garden of Life, and we will have all these products back on the shelf at Whole Foods before the Holidays.

Again, all products that include re-natured Vitamin D3 currently in distribution meet quality and labeling standards and are not mislabeled in anyway."

  112. My new year's resolution is to keep an open heart. I remind myself to open my heart throughout the day. So far this has led me to smile more and say good morning to passersby and dissipate anger or irritation that manifests in me for no good reason (like catching all the red lights...).

My daily goal is to drink a green smoothie for breakfast. I think I should up the ante because that hasn't been hard at all!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I will do yoga at least a few times per week (and try to do it five times per week). I have a toddler. This is an AMBITIOUS goal for me but I will do it!

  114. I haven't made a New Year's Resolution this year because I usually break it within the first week. I have been working on a new habit for the past week which is drinking a green smoothie every morning or at least every day. It's only been three days, but I feel so much better after drinking it. It just sets the tone for the entire day for me. My energy is higher and I feel full longer. I wish my family would try it, but they're a no go for not. Maybe if they see how great it makes me feel, they'll eventually try one. Oh well, more green goodness for me!

I can't wait for your new book to come out!

  115. I don't have a new years resolution. I am just going to continue what I have been doing - being high raw; run, weights and cross-train; be patient and open-minded.

    ReplyDelete
  116. The New Year's Resolution I am sticking to is to try and eat less processed foods. It's not always easy, but I'm doing a pretty good job so far of avoiding the quick and easy pre-packaged and going for whole foods.

  117. My goal is to exercise at least 5 days per week and so far so good!

  118. Hi Kristen!!
    What an awesome give away!!

Ok, here's my answer to your question:

As my New Years Resolution, (I will be competing in a Bikini/Figure Show in March 2010) and it is my Plan (New Years Resolution) to train for this show as a HIGH RAW Vegan!! Everyone around me (including my personal trainer) doesn't believe that a Vegan, let alone a Raw foodist, can get the results for a SHOW. It is my New Years Resolution to prove to myself and share with everyone watching, that a RAW FOODIST VEGAN CAN get the hard body of a Competitor!!!

    Cheers!!!!!
    Malynda :)

  119. What is one of your 2010 New Year's Resolutions / Goals that you're still sticking with today?

This is the first year of my ENTIRE life that i have ever made a resolution..Mine is to be a better person all around, focus on my health( as much as i can with KF) and get healthy for the upcoming transplant. I also promised myself that i would go back to school. Either culenary or cosmetology..No there is no catch to them both starting with a C lol those are just major areas of interest. I love to Cut and color hair and I LIVE for cooking up a storm. Both of these will be accomplished before summer..I guess I need another after then...Hmmm?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Mine is to take more pictures, print and frame them! I've done well so far with taking the photos, considering I'm tracking my pregnancy weekly! Now I just need to print and frame.
I'm so happy you're doing so well in your pregnancy! I'm excited to see some baby bump pics!

  121. My goals for 2010 are to Finally lose the extra 40lbs I have been carrying around with me!!!! Like Malynda and Because of Malynda I was eating cery Vegan and raw...We had started training around the same time her for a competition and me just for myself and both of our trainers wanted us to eat so much meat...so another goal is to start cutting that back out and get back to what I love...being Vegan and RAW!!!! I feel sooo much better when I do...any protein options would be great!!!!! That is the hardest part for me!!

  122. As someone who has been in the natural health industry for quite some time, I am so bewildered by the lengths Garden of Life will go to in convincing people of there product efficacy. There multivitamins are no more raw than the next whole food vitamin company. It is a marketing scam complete with Jordan Rubin (who was on quackwatch.com) selling everything under then sun. I highly encourage you as a vibrant and enthusiastic woman, to look deeper and read their book about the vitamin code. I have read it page for page and this mysterious "Andy" who is mentioned has some pretty serious issues with sticking to one scientific opinion. If you look at when their products come out, it is usually following the success of another companies product. Grow Bone anyone? Is is really safe to give women five times more strontium (which is citrate, an isolate, not a raw whole food)? Such a stain on the natural health industry.

  123. Oh this is more like my life mantra...be easy on myself and just go with it...which is difficult to do for us 'A' type personalities..there is always some task to be completed on our to-do list. Looking forward to the recipes to be posted.
    take care, Jenny
