I immediately liked the Quintessence when we walked in. It was a delightful place with an interior that was bright, clean, and cheerful. And, the service was superb.
I started my meal with a large glass of fresh organic Green Juice, and it was fabulous. BIG YUM! Then, I went on to have the bagel and cream cheese. It was pretty good. The cheese had a nice flavor, and although the (kamut) bagel part was hard to bite into, I still enjoyed it.
My husband had the "fofu" (a raw version of tofu). Specifically, he chose the "Fofu Benedict." They nailed it with the raw tofu, by making something that mimicked the cooked version. Regular cooked tofu is flavorless with a unique texture. Quintessence offered the exact same, but Raw. My husband's fofu was served on the same type of kamut "bread" as my bagel, and topped with a raw vegan hollandaise sauce.
After the meal we enjoyed a cup of teeccino. Finally! We found a place serving our favorite herbal coffee. My husband had his teeccino black, while I opted for some raw nut milk in mine. It was the perfect ending to our brunch.

Tofu looks weird, but yummy!

My folks and I were actually going to go to Quintessence last year when we were in NYC, but we cancelled our reservations and went to Pure Food and Wine for a THIRD time on that trip, haha ;-)
Glad to know you liked that place though!
Oooo teeccino ... never heard of that ... but I am intrigued!! It's off to the health food store to see if they carry it. ^_^
Oh WOW!!!! I want to try that bagel!!!! Looks FUN! Ha ha ha ha...
Thanks for sharing!
Good Lord, girl, are you STILL in the Big Apple? I've gained so much weight on this virtual gastronomical tour of the city! :D
I kid. Actually, it's been a real treat, living vicariously through you. I dream of visiting these same raw eateries in the, hopefully, not-too-distant future.
Echoing Earthmother here...you are STILL in New York? This is like the never-ending vacation!
You lucky girl! I have really been enjoying your Tales From New York :)
And it looks like you and your hubby are eating fantastic fresh food -- have a wonderful time and thanks for sharing all your adventures with us all!

Thanks for the blog comment Kristen! :)
Lucky you to be in NYC having all that fun! I am sooo jealous that you are eating at Pure Food, and Quintessence...OMG! The Fofu looks really yummy!
Take care!
Hi kristen
yes I am a lurker now LOL but I do read your regularly. I don't blog as much any more 1 x a month only
question- can you suggest a natural sweetner other than stevia( it upsets my stomach) I drink a lot of tea and don't want to over do the honey
thanks hope your happy and healthy
B
Hi B :)
Have you used organic raw agave nectar? That's lower glycemic index than honey.
There is another sweetner out there (not raw) that I haven't tried that you might consider. I don't remember the name of it (birch or something). But! If you google "the ultimate meal" (that's a protein shake)... Well, that company also has a natural sweetner you can buy. So, once you're on the website, search around for it.
Hope that helps,
Kristen
Haha... Yes, we're still in NY. It's been an amazing trip and we're not yet ready to go home. Even though the weather has been truly shitty, we're making the best of it. We're in NY after all :)
I'm very jealous of your raw vegan brunch! And I cannot believe somewhere serves teeccino!! I have been drinking it since reading about it on your blog and wish somewhere in Sydney would serve it :)
That looks fun! I may venture out for some Raw cuisine on my birthday. MY system is already much more sensitive though so we'll see how it goes:) Thanks for more yummy photos!
i love this tiny little restaurant.
Thanks for chiming in friends! :) Love your comments.
Can you tell me more about raw tofu? I really don't know anything about it.
Hi Amber,
It's not really tofu. There is no soy. It's a mock tofu made of cashews and irish moss (and maybe some seasoning, etc).
Cheers,
Kristen
