For those of you following my food intake... here was Monday's:
Water w/ lemon
Started my day with nice large glass of filtered water with a squeeze of fresh organic lemon juice. It has such a nice zing to it... perfect for starting my day.
10 Strawberries, Coconut Yogurt (non-raw)
Major yummy breakfast of locally grown, red gems. The yogurt I bought at Whole Foods. I love this stuff. Yes, I occasionally make my own Raw yogurt, but I also like keeping a little supply of these non-raw goodies in my refrigerator. They're a great snack or sometimes I have it as a dessert, especially the vanilla flavor. :)
Hummus, Flax Crackers, Carrot Sticks
Creamy, savory (raw) hummus on top of crunchy flax crackers and carrot sticks. Perfect snack!
Big Protein Shake
Recipe:
Water, 3T Sun Warrior's Raw Rice Protein Powder (chocolate), 2T Manitoba Harvest's Hemp Protein Powder, 1 heaping teaspoon Amazing Grass' Wheat Grass Powder
I love this combination - it fills me up which makes it great for weight loss. It keeps me full for a few hours. And, I love the alkalizing wheat grass. You can add a banana to give it even more oomf! (Is that even a word? My automatic spell checker says.. no.)
Herbal Tea
Lovely large mug of Raspberry Leaf Tea (chilled with a few ice cubes) from Mountain Rose Herbs. Hhmmmmm...
Large Serving of Savory Garden Veggie Pasta (without the pasta)
I didn't have zucchini on hand, so I just made a huge bowl of the marinated veggies for dinner. I sprinkled delicious and nutritious hemp seeds on top, as well as some black sesame seeds. WONDERFUL!
Just can't get bored of this delicious recipe. I usually make it once a week.

Great day! I always start my day off with lemon water as well!
What brand coconut yogurt do you buy? I love the stuff as well, but found the brand I was buying has all sorts of yucky things I can't pronounce in it!
Sounds yummy! Aren't you just loving all of these fresh fruits and veggies? Maybe after a while I'll have the courage to try some of that coconut yogurt. I'm have an all or nothing personality so I have to be totally strict until I'm comfortable:)
I've been making your Holiday Chia Pudding at least once a week as well. I don't think I will ever get sick of it!
Thanks for the tips on the sprouted nut butters. I had read some things online about dehydrating the nuts first, so that is the plan. I tried some sprouted nut butter from the Better Than Roasted brand a while back and it was so, so good. If I can replicate it myself I will be pretty stoked!
Also, I just tried the Sun Warrior protein powder. WOW, that is the best protein powder I have ever tried. I will be stoking up on that once I use up the others that I have.
Anyhow, thanks for posting a sample of your daily intake. I always wonder what true raw foodies, like yourself, eat on a daily basis.
Have a great day Kristen!
i've been doing a lot of the green smoothies with veggies and fruit... is that considered an ok combo of food? I'm trying to figure out this whole separate my fruit thing. :)
Hi RunToFinish,
That's great. Most people greatly benefit from that combination. There was a book out many, many years ago that poo-poo'd mixing greens with fruits. However, there are a plethora of sources now showing that not to be a problem. Obviously, you have to listen to your own body and digestive system. However, again, most everyone loves this combo!
Exception to the Rule: Always keep melons alone... don't mix them in your green smoothies. The watermelons digest too fast and can ferment in the stomach while waiting for the other stuff to digest.
I know I've said this before but I really appreciate these posts. It provides both a great example and inspiration for me. Thanks again :)
Hi Danielle,
Thanks for the comment and continued appreciation. I love getting the feedback :)
Hi Karen...do you have the juice pre-workout and the protein shake post-workout? If not, what do you recommend before and after lifting weights?
Thanks Kristen!
I appreciate these posts as well. Why is it so fun to see how other people eat? I guess cuz we're all different!
Question on the brown rice protein-- I've ordered from Sun Warrior website in the past, you have it linked to another website-- is there a reason for this? Cheaper, perhaps?
Have a great long weekend!!
xoxo
Yes, I think it was cheaper with this store when I originally started buying it, but I don't know anymore. However, if you want to buy in bulk and really save, then buy it from www.dimondhealth.com.
Hi Racy Red,
Not sure if you're asking me the question or you posted it on the page... this is Kristen (not "Karen"?).
My pre and post workout foods/drinks vary greatly so I can't really pinpoint anything specific. It varies on when I workout (morning first thing or later in the day), what I might or might not have eaten so far, the level of intensity of my workout, etc.
Generally speaking, I like to drink a "light" protein shake after my workout, but I don't do it all the time. Sometimes I just have fruit and have a regular protein shake like an hour later.
If I workout first thing in the morning, then if I have time, it is nice to have a small glass of green juice before working out (if I want to work out on basically an empty stomach, which I do like doing sometimes).
Cheers,
Kristen
I'm so sorry Kristen...I feel like an idiot! The question was for you!
Thanks so much for the answer.
No Worries Racy Red :)
You're welcome :)
Kristen hello!
What brand of coconut yogurt do you buy? I am not sure if you mentioned that here!!
Hi Michelle,
I don't remember the brand name, but it's the only kind they have at Whole Foods (there is only one brand making coconut based vegan yogurt). My fridge is sans yogurt right now :/ LOL
