Raw Food Intake

Hi everyone!!! I hope you're having a terrific day! Here is my food for the day. As usual, everything is organic. If I get hungry beyond what I've written, then, I'll probably add an apple and/or protein shake.

2 bananas

~ One of the easiest breakfasts... ever!

Miso Soup with Chickpea miso by South River Miso

~ I love this stuff. It makes a delicious and warming breakfast.

1 quart Plant Blood

~ Refreshing and green... cucumber, zucchini, celery, lemon, ginger (It's so bright and gorgeous! I feel full of life with every sip!)

Prunes

~ Found the most amazing fresh, huge, soft, chewy prunes at Whole Foods (they're not usually this great when I buy them from there, but this batch... OHH LA LA!)

Raw, unpasteurized Sauerkraut

~ I'm on a sauerkraut kick lately. It's so nourishing on the body and I love the zest of it. I've been doing some extra reading on the food and I'm committed to trying to get a little of this in my diet on a daily basis if possible. I ordered on of those fancy german crocks and will be making it myself soon. Right now I'm eating the kraut from Rejuvenative (and it's good), but I prefer the kraut from Gold Mine.

1 large avocado, diced

~ Yum... full of vitamins and healthy fats. Love avocado!

Giant kale salad with flax crackers

~ with red bell pepper, carrots, raisins, and hemp seeds

Holiday Chia Pudding

~ I'm hooked on this stuff

On another note, I can't wait for American Idol tonight!!! And, on yet another note... I'm having another awesome giveaway this week, so be sure and check back!!!

Wonderful day of food! Do you have any pictures of your before and after with your transition from blonde to brunette? I am thinking about doing the opposite - brunette to blonde.

We love sauerkraut! We made our own for the first time this year with cabbage from our garden. It's the best we've ever tasted.

Haha yes I have transition pics but not anything I want to post ;)

Yay Idol, Yay KRAUT, and YAY GIVEAWAYS!! :)

I love sauerkraut, I am dieing to make it or buy it raw, it's so good for the tummy! I just NEED it! :)

Who are you rooting for on Idol? I like Chris (mostly because I think he is really cute), Allison and Danny.

Hi Garden of Life! That's so awesome that you grow your own cabbage and made kraut. I might be picking your brain when I get my supplies, if that's okay :)

Hi Lauren!
YAY for you loving sauerkraut, too! We're big Adam fans, but we also like watching Danny and Allison. Chris is good, too. I think it's a pretty tough competition! There are moments I like the guy from Michigan, but he's not consistent enough for me.

Hi Kristen - I'm starting to transition to more raw foods in my diet and blogs like this are very appreciated for meal ideas! Thanks!

HI Emily!
Congratulations :) Thanks for reading my blog and commenting!

Have a lovely day,

Hi Kristen:
I am totally in love with your holiday Chia pudding too! so is my husband actually. He asked what Chai seeds were since he was reading the recipe for me, I had to bug him of course, but then the pudding tastes a little like chai so it fit. anyway I "accidentally" soaked too many nuts and made a double batch but it didn't last at all. Thanks so much for the awesome recipe! and all the tips on such a regular basis too!

Sounds delish! It kind of looks like my food intake lately:) Thanks for the kraut suggestion, I just may have to try that. I have been craving vinegar lately, hmm.

Kristen's Raw said...

Hi Sara!!! Thanks for the awesome feedback :) Glad you're loving the Holiday Chia Pudding... Chai flavor indeed!!!

Hi Nicole!!!
I learned recently that craving vinegar is very much in line with the season of spring which is ruled by the liver which is related to sour. So... this could be your body getting in line with the season :)

What to say? Everything sounds amazing!

I continue to learn from you. Your diet impresses me with its simplicity. You don't tend to mix things together too much. That makes sense.

. . . So who is your favorite American Idol contestant? We're big fans and enjoyed the show tonight. Kris is gaining ground; Adam continues to amaze me. Allison has an amazing voice. Danny sings well [but for me at least, is a bit overrated].

Pretty much the same thoughts, Ken. We are Adam fans and have been from the start, but we also enjoy watching Chris, Danny, and Allison.

It's a good season :)

Could you please be more specific in your plant blood recipe? Did you just stick one of each in a juicer?

Kristen's Raw said...

Hi Anonymous,
It was

1 large cucumber
2 zucchini
1/2 bunch celery
1 lemon, peeled
1 large chunk ginger (like the size of my thumb)

I juiced it in my Breville. It's bright and tart... you can add an apple to round out the tartness (I didn't because I wanted to keep it less sweet).

Cheers,
Kristen

Hey Kristen! I just ordered one of those fancy German crocks, too! I have my first batch of cabbage (from Doug, of course!) fermenting (hopefully) away. I've gotten into fermented food and love the raw sauerkraut. Kimchi, too. I also really dig kombucha and would love to learn how to make that. Cheers, Heather

HI Heather!
Wow! Great minds think alike!!! :) That is so cool! We'll have to compare notes, eh? I'm holding off on making my first batch until I can get a bunch of Doug's fresh local organic cabbage. Until then, I'm munching away on Gold Mine's Sauerkraut (I bought a couple big jars when I ordered the pot).

Hugs and Cheers :)

Hi Kristen! My mom and dad-in law have been making their own kraut for years grating it on a special grater my grandpa-in law made years ago. They make it in large buckets, with a weight and some salt. I had no idea it was good for you! I LOVE it raw! My hubby and I sneak out where it is being kept cool and steal a bowlfull! LOL!
But, I was under the impression(my own) it was not so great for you because of the salt content? Would love to know more.

According to all of the research I've done, Sauerkraut (and fermented veggies) is one of the most beneficial foods you can eat.

1/4 cup is usually the serving size, so that actually isn't too much sodium from the recipes I've seen and tried. (In fact, Rejuvenative makes one without sodium even). From what I've seen recommended in some books praising the benefits of it, 1/4 cup a day is the average consumption in the countries who consume it as a staple in their diets.

Cheers,
Kristen

Wow Thanks!

Hi Kristen!
I agree with the above commenters...your daily food intake is simple, yet delicious! I love having simple raw food days, sometimes our favorite meals are the simplest ones where not much raw food prep was involved.

Off-topic...I can NOT picture you as a chocolate-brown brunette! I have your raw books here (LOVE them, by the way) and your blonde hair and smiling little face peek at me from all the book covers :) Can't picture you as anything except a blonde!

Kristen's Raw said...

Hi Sheri,
Thank you so much! I sure hope I can meet you some day because you're the coolest mom I know :)

The hair color... I know, right!?!? It has taken me so long to get used to it, but I'm LOVING it. It's so healthy and shiny yet I didn't have to do anything to it to get it this way other than eating a healthy diet - no chemical hair care products. It's been an enormous transition. I look forward to posting pics, but want it to grow longer first. The cut is still to "inbetween" ;)

I figure, celebrities are always changing their hair and no one thinks twice about it, so why can't I change mine (and it's healthier for the environment what I'm doing)?

Hugs!
Kristen

Hey Kristen - do you track your caloric intake? What do you try to take in on a daily basis?

I am an athlete (runner/yoga instructor) and am doing a 30-day raw challenge, curious with your bodybuilding background if you have any insights on how much (quantity) to eat vs quality. I know some raw-fooders saw you need to eat less since the raw food is higher quality. Thoughts?

Kristen's Raw said...

Hi Ravi,
No, I don't track calorie intake. I know my body very well and I basically eat when I'm hungry.

There is some truth to the fact that you're getting more nutrition from raw foods so in general, some people might find they need fewer calories. But, if I'm doing a lot of physical activity, I don't always subscribe to that because I want to make sure I'm getting enough fuel for my body.

You might consider protein shakes (raw using hemp and/or raw sprouted rice protein powder) if you're active and want to make sure you're getting some protein for that lifestyle.

You might want to check out Brendan Brazier's book, Thrive.

Cheers,
Kristen
