One my favorite green smoothie recipes is simply apples, spinach and cinnamon. I love how the apples make it "fluffy" and the spinach adds a lovely creaminess to it. And, if you use red delicious apples (they're reported to have the highest levels of phytonutrients) then you get gorgeous little flecks of red swirling around as you drink.
We're going to a party tonight where I'm certain there won't be anything for me to eat. No problem though! And, certainly no complaints here. I'm simply going to tote along my Fluffy Green Smoothie to drink. (I love the conversation it starts anyway.)
Today's Raw Vegan Food (so far):
Heavy Metal Nano Detox
Pine's Wheat Grass Tablets
My Super Drink (I chug it down)
1 cup water
1-2 T hemp protein powder for protein, essential fatty acids and fiber
1/4 t camu powder (or 1 T Fruits of the Earth) for extra Vitamin C and nutrients
1 T freshly ground milk thistle seeds to cleanse my liver
1 T ground flax or chia seeds for more essential fatty acids to convert to DHA (important for pregnancy)
1 heaping T Vitamineral Green for more power greens
*The list above is pretty much how I've been starting every morning lately to help get my body ready for pregnancy.
Girly Sun Tea (alfalfa, nettle, raspberry leaf)
Fluffy Green Smoothie (1 1/2 cups water, 2 apples, 1/2 t cinnamon, 2 big handfuls spinach)
Fluffy Green Protein Smoothie (same as above but I've added hemp protein powder and Vitamineral Green)
I will likely have chocolate at some point during the day :)

Have fun at the party, my friend!! :0)
Oh and I have a new allergy - check out my blog.
Have fun at the party! There sure isn't anything vegan at Gordon Biersh, that's for sure.
I have to try your fluffy green smothie-sounds awesome.
Great menu today Kristen! You are slowly inspiring me to get back into more raw!! I say slowly but its happening!! So thanks for that lovely lady!!!
I was wondering, how "green" does this smoothie taste? I am trying to ease myself into the green juicing/smoothies. Thanks!
I was also wondering if you test your pH, if you don't mind my asking. If so, I would imagine it is pretty alkaline?
BTW, enjoy reading your blog. "Met" you on CSL.
Kim
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have enjoying looking through your blog tonight. We are not vegan or even vegetarian, but I am incorporating more raw foods in our diet every day. I was looking at your menu (so to speak) for today and was wondering if you get hungry? My hubby needs to eat something hearty during the day or he feels like I am starving him. For example today he had bowl of shredded wheat w/ fresh blueberries, lunch was smoothie and a bowl of spinach, and dinner was a chicken, brown rice and black bean dish. I use one chicken breast (sorry I know you are vegan) for a family of eight so there is not a whole lot of meat on anyone's plate. He was still hungry after dinner. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Toni
I always do apple/lime/spinach, but I've never tried it with cinnamon. So simple! Thanks for another delicious sounding idea!
I'd love to try a Fluffy Green Smoothie! It sounds so simple and delicious.
Hi EVERYONE :)
Michelle,
That's awesome! Every little bit helps, ya know? An apple here, a green smoothie there, etc etc. Feel the health :)
Hi Anonymous,
No, I don't test my pH.
The smoothie is AMAZING, ESPECIALLY with the cinnamon. YUMMERS! Now, I like mine with a lot of greens, but start with a small amount and go from there. Over time, I find that people like adding more and more greens even if they don't start out with a lot.
Hi Happy Housewife,
Keep in mind, that was not my entire food menu for the day. I didn't include my dinner in that.
If he's hungry after dinner I suggest a green smoothie. They're great for filling you up and are filled with FIBER which is important for helping you feel full.
Another option is some Raw Vegan dessert! I have a Summer Strawberry Cobbler recipe on my blog, you could try.
Hi Kathryn,
Lime sounds delicious in the smoothie :) Sometimes I do a little lemon juice.
Hi Paulina,
Definitely try it! It's perfect for hot weather :)
Cheers!
That smoothie does sound great - very simple, which is perfect sometimes.
And I hear ya about being prepared at social functions. I usually pack up snacks and whatnot for times like that too. :)
Kristen-
Thanks for the tips! I am lovin' the blog!
Toni

I have a question for you since you seem to know a lot about nutrition; is MSG bad for you? I always thought it was something that should be avoided but my mom told me it wasn't bad at all and that people eat it all the time. Do you know anything about this?
Thanks
Hi Paulina,
MSG is one of the worst things for you.
Hi Kristen! Thank you for stopping by my blog and giving me a little support! Trust me, in my circle of friends - I am a little weird - but I am totally fine with that! Can't wait to look around your blog a little more. Thanks again!
Alicia
Hi Kristen! This morning I made myself and my dear husband a nice tall glass of freshly juiced, spinach, apple, and blueberry with a splash of unsweetened cranberry juice.
I like the sound of your "Fluffy Green Smoothie" especially with cinnamon added. I will make this for our green breakfast smoothie tomorrow morning.
All the best to you!

Not only did I make this drink once, but twice. Today I made a big batch for myself and my hubby. It is so good, especially with the touch of cinnamon. Thanks.
